Richard Bellinger Obituary

PHILADELPHIA, PA

Richard Lavon Bellinger, affectionately known as "Ricky" was born into time on February 28, 1953 in Statesboro, GA. He resided in Statesboro, Ga with his beloved grandparents until the age of 10.

Ricky, then relocated to West Philadelphia, PA. He attended the public school system of Philadelphia, PA and was a graduate of Overbrook High School. After completing high school Ricky enlisted in the United States Marines.

He later met his sweetheart La Rosa Santos and to this union two children were born.Richard was a Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Technician. He was employed with United States Customs & Immigration.Ricky was a meek, handsome man with a big heart. He loved sharing quality time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren and best friend, Johnny Crawford. Ricky always brightened the room with his infectious laugh and illuminating smile. He was always eager to share his admiration for his grandparents, the late Joseph "Joe"  and Cleo Bellinger.

Additionally, his mama's (Joan Greene presence always kept him in high spirits. His sense of humor was loved by many as was his quick wits. He took pride in sharing any facts and knowledge he gained from reading books or watching documentaries and was known by his grandchildren for his inquisitiveness of the internet, especially through email and facebook. He reveled in quotes, usually taking quotes from songs to emphasize his thoughts and affection like saying, “LaLa means I Love You” for his granddaughter, LaIndia “LaLa” Santos-Phillips, and  “No more Daddy’s Little Girl” for his daughter, Requitta Kia Bellinger.  

Although he struggled with his health for many years, his resilience was unlike any other, or as his family would put it,” he had nine lives.” Despite the hardships of his illness, Ricky expressed gratitude in having lived a life of fulfillment.Richard, was preceded in death by his grandparents Mr. Joseph and Mrs. Cleo Bellinger Sr.; three uncles, Joseph Bellinger, Jr., Floyd Bellinger, Ulis Bellinger; one aunt Catherine Dillard, and a bestfriend, George.

Because love is far greater than we know, he leaves to cherish his memories, his mother, Joan Greene of Media PA; his children, Antoine Lavon (Waleska) Bellinger of Brookhaven, PA, Requitta Kia Bellinger of Sharon Hill, PA; nine grandchildren , La India Santos-Phillips, Angelo Santos-Phillips, Nyle Hearne, Nyne Hearne, Sunena Ortiz, Abimael Lavon Bellinger, Jadiel Lavon Bellinger, Anaí Bellinger, Elias Lavon Bellinger. one great-granddaughter: Xali Santos all of Delaware County, PA; a best friend, Johnny Crawford; of Philadelphia, PA; one brother, William Bill (Nora) Lee of Philadelphia, PA; one sister Patrica Richardson of Yaden PA; three uncles, William (Lula) Bellinger of NC, Jimmi Bellinger of Washington State, George (Susan) Bellinger of Landover MD; three aunts, Mary Alice Lee of Philadelphia, PA, Annie Bellinger, Julia Williams both of Statesboro, GA; a special cousin, Lloyd Lowe of Richmond, VA; a special friend, Cheryll of Philadelphia, PA; a caravan of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Graveside Celebration of Life Service In Memory of Mr. Richard Bellinger will be held on Saturday July 11, 2020 at 12 noon in the Mount Zion AME Church Cemetery, 10728 GA-24 Highway, Statesboro, Georgia 30461.
